Anthropic Launches Emergency Talks with US Government to Revive Mythos 5 and Fable 5

Anthropic's management has begun urgent negotiations with the US government to lift the block on its Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models.
As a reminder, last week the company was forced to shut down its advanced models due to an ultimatum from US authorities, who demanded that access to the technologies be blocked for all foreign nationals.
Reason for Blocking Mythos 5 and Fable 5
Bloomberg reports that Washington's harsh ultimatum was triggered by the discovery of a vulnerability in Fable 5. Malicious actors found a way to bypass factory restrictions, allowing them to detect flaws in IT infrastructure and execute cyberattacks.
Experts note that patching this vulnerability could take several months.
Conflict with the Pentagon Complicates Dialogue
The situation is further complicated by the company's past disagreements with the government. Earlier in 2026, the Pentagon added Anthropic to its list of high-risk enterprises. This occurred after the company refused to grant the military full control over its technologies for combat application and surveillance of US citizens.
Both sides are currently attempting to find a compromise to return the models to the commercial market.
Progress
The Mythos model was originally developed under the supervision of government agencies, and the complete halt of the project damages both the company's reputation and its revenue.
Anthropic is now trying to prove that it can isolate the neural network's dangerous capabilities without harming the commercial market. The upcoming rounds of negotiations will determine whether the startup can bring Mythos 5 and Fable 5 back into service.
