Budget solution: using DDR5 laptop adapters for desktops

Recently, a video appeared on the Hardware Canucks YouTube channel proposing an alternative method for utilizing DDR5 laptop memory in desktop computers using SO-DIMM – DIMM adapters. The adapter is installed in the RAM slot and is available on Amazon starting at €8 and on Asian websites at a lower price.
Tests of a new anti-crisis solution
The adapter was tested on several platforms on Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 7000, Intel LGA1700, and LGA1851. The speed of operation directly depends on the revision of the adapter and the processor memory controller. Also, some systems may boot at a lower speed due to default settings, so it is worth changing them manually. In addition, the height of the adapter may conflict with certain cooling systems.
There is a slight decrease in performance in games, but in most tests, results close to the DDR5-6000 configuration were achieved. This solution can be a temporary option if there is unused memory in the laptop.
Using adapters is a very convenient and budget-friendly option that does not require soldering or other technical skills. However, it is important to keep in mind the slight decrease in speed and take the physical dimensions into account.
