  • Anaconda WebUI — Improved Installation
  • Variety of Versions and Environments

April 15, 2025, saw the release of Fedora Linux 42, one of the most anticipated updates among Linux distributions. The new release includes current versions of software: GNOME 48 and KDE Plasma 6.3 environments, Linux kernel 6.14, GCC 15 and LLVM 20 compilers, and updated interpreters and libraries — PHP 8.4, Ruby 3.4, Django 5.x, Ansible 11, and many others. Fedora 42 is available for x86_64, ARM64 (AArch64), and Power64 architectures in Workstation and Server editions.

Anaconda WebUI — Improved Installation

Fedora Workstation now comes with the new default Anaconda WebUI installer. The UI offers an improved interface that shows the progress of the installation and provides a detailed configuration overview.

One of the major new features is an improved automatic disk partitioning mechanism. The user has more control over how disk space will be organized, up to and including the option to “Reinstall Fedora”, a feature to restore the system without the need for manual configuration.

Variety of Versions and Environments

Fedora 42 is available not only in the standard Workstation and Server editions, but also in Silverblue, IoT, CoreOS, Cloud Base, and Onyx variants. Live builds with support for KDE Plasma 6, Xfce, MATE, Cinnamon, LXDE, LXQt, Budgie, Sway, and Phosh are also available.

This approach makes Fedora as flexible as possible — it is suitable for desktops, servers, cloud solutions, embedded systems, and software developers alike.

The release of Fedora 42 was a logical continuation of the release schedule: Fedora 41 was released in October 2024, Fedora 40 in April of the same year, and Fedora 39 back in November 2023. The developers continue to follow a semi-annual cycle, allowing users to receive regular updates and improvements.
