Rapidus plans to become the first contractor manufacturer of 2-nm chips in Japan. The major aim for the next year is to help Rapidus’s clients with chip development and their subsequent manufacturing. Such an initiative is oriented toward 17 major partners, including some international ones.
Expansion of Rapidus’ customer base
Such a huge initiative of the company can significantly increase its customer base. Toshiba’s business units could be on the list of those major Rapidus clients. The start of 2-nm chips’ mass production is planned for the second half of 2027.
There is going to be active support for this project by the Japanese authorities. The expected number of subsidies could be around $19 billion, which is significant for the company founded in 2022.
Among the expected 17 participants in the new program, there are going to be Toshiba, Toppan, Dai Nippon Printing, MavissDesign, NSW, and US companies such as Cadence and Synopsys.
There are also going to be Indian partners (Infosys) and a company that is based in Malaysia. At every stage of the chip design, Rapidus and its clients will be supported by various groups of partners. Such a type of collaboration, where customers are assisted in chip development, is not new.
