The three semiconductor giants, Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron, have completely sold out their planned DRAM and HBM production volumes for 2027.
According to DigiTimes, citing industry sources, capacity was bought out significantly faster than forecasted, leaving no room for new buyers.
Why is 2026 Already Fully Booked?
To avoid getting caught in shortages, companies are heavily shifting toward three- to five-year contracts with partial upfront payments. July and August proved to be the months for securing allocations. This information was kept quiet out of fear of losing booked shares, leaving a portion of the market in the dark as a result.
Supply is booked up to 2027. Analysts estimate that in 2027 itself, manufacturers will only be able to meet 60–70% of total demand.
Servers and AI Claim 70% of the Market
The primary volume of memory will go to cloud service providers, AI labs, and hyperscalers.
The server segment and HBM memory combined will account for roughly 70% of all DRAM shipments. The consumer sector's share (PC, smartphone, and electronics makers) will shrink to 30%, continuing a decline that started in 2026.
Positive dynamics are visible only in the NAND flash memory segment, where supply chains are expected to stabilize by 2027.
