The new version of Grok is available in Cursor

The new Sonic model can be tested for free in the Cline extension and the Cursor code editor. There is no information available about the model's developer yet, but if you ask Sonic who created it, the answer will be: “I am Grok from xAI.” You can select the model in the selector in the Cursor application.

Model characteristics

Reddit and X users characterize the new model as ideal for simple tasks, especially those in the backend. Sonic has a context window of 262K tokens and owns frameworks such as Svelte 5. Negative aspects include aggressive code correction and the need for careful prompt writing.

There are several possible options regarding the version. It could be Grok 4 Mini or the announced Grok 4 Coder. Currently, there are no official statements to support either of these options. Free access will most likely only be available during the testing period. No information is available regarding the end of the testing period.
