What is the difference between an Account, User, and Contact?
Accounts, Users, and Contacts are different entities in the Client Area. They have different purposes and access levels.
Understanding the difference between them is especially important if multiple people need to access or receive information about the same Account.
Account
An Account is the main entity that contains your products, services, billing information, Users, Contacts, and other associated data.
An Account is created when you place your first order. The person who creates the Account becomes its first User and Master Owner.
The Master Owner has full access to the Account and can invite additional Users, assign permissions, and create Contacts.
- All products and services belong to the Account, not to individual Users.
- Billing information, invoices, and other account data are associated with the Account.
- An Account can have multiple Users with different permissions.
- An Account can have multiple Contacts.
- The Master Owner has full administrative access to the Account.
Think of the Account as a container: it holds your services, billing data, Users, and Contacts. Users are people who can access this Account, while Contacts are stored contact records without Client Area access.
Users
A User is a person who can access the Account through the Client Area.
The person who creates the Account is automatically its first User and becomes the Master Owner. Additional Users can be invited later and given access according to their assigned permissions.
- Users can log in to the Client Area using their own credentials.
- Users can access and manage the Account based on their permissions.
- Users can manage products and services if the required permissions have been assigned to them.
- Different Users can have different levels of access to the same Account.
- User permissions can be configured when inviting a User and changed later in User Management.
Adding a User is useful when another person needs to work with your Account without sharing the Master Owner's login credentials.
Contacts
A Contact is used to store someone's contact information within the Account.
Unlike a User, a Contact does not have access to the Client Area.
- Contacts can be used for communication purposes.
- Contacts cannot log in to the Client Area.
- Contacts cannot access or manage products and services.
- Creating a Contact does not create a User or provide access to the Account.
Use a Contact when you only need to store someone's contact information without giving them access to your Account.
