How to Connect to a Windows Server via RDP?
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) allows you to remotely access and control a Windows server through a graphical desktop interface.
To connect to your server, you need its IP address, RDP port, username, and password. You can find the connection details provided for your server in the Welcome Email.
Note:
These instructions apply to both VPS and Dedicated Servers running Windows.
Connect from Windows
- Open Remote Desktop Connection. You can find it by searching for Remote Desktop Connection in the Start menu or by pressing Win + R, entering mstsc, and pressing Enter.
- In the Computer field, enter your server IP address and RDP port in the following format:
server_ip:rdp_port - Click Connect.
- Enter your Windows server username and password when prompted.
- Confirm the connection to access the remote desktop.
Connect from macOS
You can connect to a Windows server from macOS using Windows App from Microsoft.
- Install and open Windows App.
- Click the + button and select Add PC.
- In the PC Name field, enter your server IP address and RDP port.
- Add the connection.
- Open the newly created connection and enter your Windows server username and password when prompted.
- Confirm the connection to access the remote desktop.
Connect from Linux
On Linux, you can use an RDP client such as FreeRDP. After installing FreeRDP using your distribution's package manager, connect to the server using:
xfreerdp /v:server_ip:rdp_port /u:username
Replace server_ip, rdp_port, and username with your server connection details. Enter the password when prompted.
