How to disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security configuration on Windows Server?
Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) is a Windows Server security feature that restricts access to websites and web content in Internet Explorer.
In some older Windows Server environments, you may need to temporarily disable IE ESC to access websites or download software through Internet Explorer.
Note:
This guide applies only to Windows Server versions where Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration are available. It does not apply to Windows Server 2025, where the standalone Internet Explorer application has been removed.
Attention:
Disabling IE Enhanced Security Configuration reduces the browser security protections provided by Windows Server. Disable it only when necessary and consider enabling it again after completing the required task.
How to Disable IE Enhanced Security Configuration
- Open Server Manager.
- Select Local Server from the menu on the left.
- Find IE Enhanced Security Configuration in the Properties section and click its current status.
- In the window that opens, select Off for Administrators, Users, or both, depending on your requirements.
- Click OK to apply the changes.
IE Enhanced Security Configuration is now disabled for the selected user group.
