3.3 million downloads of the Linux-based alternative to Windows 11

Zorin OS, a Linux-based operating system, was developed as an alternative to Windows and macOS. The new OS became available late last year, almost simultaneously with the end of support for Windows 10. Due to the end of Windows 10 support, a significant portion of users - approximately 780,000 - began using Linux. As a result, the number of Zorin OS downloads has increased steadily and now stands at 3.3 million.
Features of Zorin OS and the release of version 18.1
Version 18.1 became available six months after Zorin OS 18. The new version offers improved hardware support and several updated features. For example, the built-in database has been slightly expanded to detect Windows application installation files better.
The new system offers the best alternatives for Windows applications and supports over 240 programs. The new update also includes desktop improvements. Some programs will now have their own icon-indicator in the system tray for faster access and status checking.
Zorin OS 18.1 runs on the Linux 6.17 kernel, which ensures better driver support for AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel graphics cards. Additionally, users now have access to LibreOffice 26.2 with Markdown format support and significantly improved compatibility with Microsoft 365.
Zorin Lite has also been updated to version 17.3, featuring updated desktop themes and an updated “File Manager” application. This version is designed for older machines.
Windows 11 has been available for four years now, but hasn’t gained widespread adoption among users yet. The company also promised improvements to version 11 earlier this year, but it seems we shouldn’t expect any major changes.
