On July 14, Samsung started sales of 990 PCIe 4.9 NVMe solid-state drives. However, some price-related details hardly make these drives “anti-crisis” ones.
Overview of the New Model Specifications
New drives are equipped with 280-layer 3D QLC NAND V9 flash memory chips and Piccolo-Q controller without DRAM cache.
Samsung 990 drives are available in 2 and 1 TB variants, and the price is equivalently $530 and $270.
The 2 TB model offers access to sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s. The performance for random write operations is up to 1.2 million IOPS, and read operations of up to 850,000 IOPS. The 1 TB model is characterized by sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s and read speeds of 7,150 MB/s.
The endurance of the 2 TB model is approximately 800 TBW, while the 1 TB model has 400 TBW endurance. Also, all the new devices have a 3-year warranty from the manufacturer.
