Budget Beast Incoming: Ryzen 5 9600X3D with Zen 5 & 3D V-Cache Spotted
15:33, 24.06.2025
AMD may have accidentally revealed a new budget-friendly gaming CPU — the Ryzen 5 9600X3D. This 6-core processor based on the Zen 5 architecture was spotted in the compatibility list for AMD's Radeon AI PRO R9700 graphics card. It joins the higher-end X3D models (9950X3D, 9900X3D, 9800X3D) but with a smaller core count and a more affordable profile.
Despite its six cores, it's expected to offer impressive performance thanks to 64MB of second-gen 3D V-Cache — the same as the 8-core 9800X3D. Internally, it likely uses an 8-core chiplet with two cores disabled. That's not unusual, even in 2025. With this setup, it also features a 32MB L3 cache, 6MB L2, and 480KB L1 cache, totaling 102.5MB of cache overall.
Does 6 Cores Still Make Sense in 2025?
It's a fair question. Some modern games are now optimized for eight cores or more. However, past results from the Ryzen 5 7600X3D have shown that a clever cache design can often compensate for fewer cores. In many cases, it came close to the performance of the 8-core 7800X3D.
Cache Comparison (Total):
- 9950X3D: 145MB
- 9900X3D: 140.8MB
- 9800X3D: 104.5MB
- 9600X3D: 102.5MB
The Ryzen 5 9600X3D may not be the most powerful chip, but it could become a sweet spot for gamers who want excellent performance without paying a premium price. The official pricing and launch date are still unknown, but excitement is building.
