Recently, Trump responded to possible investments and other Chinese ties of CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
Conflict of business interests in connection with investments
The US government has openly expressed its suspicions about Intel's CEO. Lip-Bu Tan's Walden International fund invests in hundreds of Chinese companies, some of which have direct military connections. At the same time, Intel is a participant in the Secure Enclave government program, which is quite important for the country's defense technologies.
Republican Tom Cotton has asked Intel to explain the situation and thoroughly investigate the CEO's business contacts with Chinese companies, especially those related to the Chinese military. Donald Trump also responded to the situation on Truth Social. He called on Intel's CEO to resign due to a conflict of interest. Company representatives, in turn, pledged to cooperate with regulatory authorities and declared their commitment to the interests of the United States.
Two years ago, Tan was the head of Cadence Design Systems. Recently, the company admitted to supplying software for AI chips to Chinese military scientists. In response to the situation, the company has already paid a $140 million fine.
