Google, in collaboration with Synaptics, has created a new hardware platform called Coralboard. This single-board computer is designed for smart home systems, internal applications, and local artificial intelligence (Edge AI) without the need to rely on cloud servers.
Technical Features of Coralboard
At the heart of the mini-computer is the Synaptics Astra SL2619 chip, which features a Coral NPU coprocessor and a Synaptics Torq engine delivering 1 TOPS of performance. The platform is equipped with 2 GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 64 GB of built-in flash storage, and hardware acceleration optimized for running Google Gemma 4 models.
Available interfaces and ports include: USB-A, USB-C, I2S audio, MIPI for camera and display, I3C, Qwiic, mikroBUS, GPIO, and an M.2 E-key slot for connecting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. On the software side, the system is powered by the Yocto Linux distribution and the Synaptics Astra SDK.
Package Contents and Release Date
The market launch of Coralboard is scheduled for summer 2026. The initial starter kit will include a Sensor HAT expansion module, a CSI camera, and all the necessary mounting hardware for assembly.
The pricing for the kit has not yet been disclosed.
