Google Domains stopped selling domains – now Squarespace is responsible for the service

After a decade of operation, Google quits the Google Domains service. The service and all domains that belong to it are gradually being transferred to Squarespace. It’s worth noting that the current users haven’t been notified about the transition and you can get informed only if you visit the login page. The message on the login page tells that from now on the domains can be bought on Squarespace – with prices starting from $12/year.

The current Google Domains users will be able to continue using domains.google.com to manage their domains, but no new domains can be added anymore.

Wordpress, in turn, announced a special offer of free migration for those who are not content with this state of affairs.

The number of domains that are to be transferred from Google Domains to Squarespace is about 10 million. The price of the deal is about $180 million according to Bloomberg.
