At the end of November 2023, project developer Greg Kroah-Hartman announced that the Linux 6.5 kernel will no longer be supported and recommended users upgrade to the current kernel version - Linux 6.6 LTS.
The Linux 6.5 series ceases its 3-month lifecycle after 13 updates, with the last release in the lineup, Linux 6.5.13, dated November 28. The Linux 6.5 lineup will no longer receive updates, bug fixes, and security enhancements.
As for the recommended Linux 6.6 LTS, that kernel will be supported until at least December 2026.
In October, the Linux Foundation announced that it would be moving to Super Long Term Support (SLTS - Super Long Term Support) for the Linux 6.1 kernel branch, which has a term of 10 years. This support will provide the Linux 6.1 branch with security-focused updates and patches and carry over improvements from newer lineups throughout 10 years.
A stable version of the Linux 6.6 kernel was released in October 2023. Linux 6.7 is scheduled for release in late 2023 or early 2024.
