Samsung’s semiconductor division reported an operating profit of 89.2 trillion won, equal to about 61.7 billion dollars. The figure was more than 250 times higher than a year earlier.
However, rising memory prices hurt the company’s mobile division. The unit recorded a loss of 700 billion won, its first unprofitable quarter.
Samsung plans to open its new factory in Taylor, Texas, this year. It will also begin constructing another facility, with mass production scheduled for 2030.
