Qualcomm has officially announced two 8-core processors: the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. Both are manufactured using a modern 4-nanometer process and promise a significant leap in performance and energy efficiency.
Budget-Friendly Snapdragon 4 Gen 5
The new 4-series chip features an updated architecture (2 performance cores at 2.4 GHz and 6 efficiency cores at 2.0 GHz) and new functions previously found only in more expensive models. The following aspects have been improved:
- GPU performance increased by 77%.
- Support for 4K video recording and cameras with resolutions up to 108 MP.
- Dual SIM Dual Active mode, allowing both SIM cards to operate on 5G networks simultaneously.
- Extended battery life.
Powerful Snapdragon 6 Gen 5
For mid-range smartphones, Qualcomm has prepared a more powerful solution with four performance cores (2.6 GHz). This chip is designed for those who prioritize application speed and gaming capabilities.
- The chip supports AI-based night photography (AI Night Vision), 100x digital zoom, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0.
- Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0 technology ensures stable frame rates, while Game Super Resolution enhances graphics quality without excessive battery drain.
When to Expect Them
The first smartphones based on these new chips will go on sale in the second half of 2026. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 will debut in devices from Honor and Redmi, while the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 will appear in models from Oppo, Realme, and Redmi.
These updated processors complete Qualcomm’s fifth-generation lineup, bringing more performance to budget Android smartphones.a
