NVIDIA Postpones GeForce RTX 50 SUPER Release Due to Memory Shortage
15:54, 06.02.2026
NVIDIA has decided to delay the launch of its updated RTX 50 SUPER graphics card lineup. According to The Information, the company has chosen to focus on the AI market instead of releasing an update for the gaming segment.
Main Reason: GDDR7 Memory Shortage
The primary reason for the cancellation is a significant shortage of GDDR7 memory with a density of 3 GB per chip.
NVIDIA originally planned to unveil the updated lineup at CES 2026, but changed its course. Reasoning that these memory modules would yield significantly higher profits in the AI sector, the company redirected its efforts toward that segment.
What Consumers Are Missing Out On
The SUPER lineup was intended to meet consumer demand for increased memory capacity. It was expected that the RTX 5070 SUPER would feature 18 GB of memory, while the RTX 5070 Ti SUPER and RTX 5080 SUPER would each boast 24 GB.
Now, buyers will have to choose from the base RTX 50-series versions, which are often criticized for their limited specifications and high prices.
What to Expect in the Future
The troubles for NVIDIA’s gaming division don't end here. It is likely that the next series, RTX 60 based on the Rubin architecture, may also face release delays: launch timelines have already begun to shift.
Consequently, the release of any new mass-market graphics card lines from NVIDIA in the coming years remains uncertain.
