Recently, information was published regarding drive failure and data corruption after installing the KB5063878 update. Phison immediately responded to the situation and attempted to reproduce the problem. After extensive testing, they stated that they did not encounter the problem. Most likely, the situation was a side effect of updates KB5062660 and KB5063878, but had nothing to do with the Phison controller.
HDD and SSD failures after installing the update
HDD and SSD failures were reported after installing the update in the second half of August. As a result, the drive stopped showing up, and SMART indicators became unavailable.
Microsoft was unable to reproduce the error and requested additional information from users who encountered this situation.
Phison conducted more than 2,200 test cycles, which did not reveal any problems. Therefore, the company recommends using a thermal pad or heat sink during intensive work processes. This will ensure stable performance and optimal operating temperature.
