Recently, AMD has officially confirmed the update of the Ryzen Z2 chip series, which is aimed at the needs of portable gaming consoles. The ASUS ROG XBOX Ally system will have the new Ryzen Z2A and Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processors.
Features of Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme
The new chip will have an enabled NPU module. It also has a Strix Point APU with the XDNA2 neural unit. Such characteristics will be beneficial not only for gaming but also for AI.
The chip is equipped with an 8-core Zen5 architecture and a 16-core GPU on RDNA 3.5. As for other characteristics, they remain unknown.
Features of Ryzen Z2A
Ryzen Z2A belongs to the same series and is based on the older architecture. Most likely, the newcomer is based on the Van Gogh chip, which features 8 RDNA2 graphics units and 4 Zen2 cores. This version is expected to be more energy efficient.
AMD has not yet disclosed information on the performance of the new chips. The presence of a neural processor in the Z2 Extreme can lead to potential improvements in AI.
