Due to the boom in AI systems, memory chip manufacturers are a major focus of attention right now. Micron’s Technology CEO has recently made a public statement that customers are becoming more involved in memory development even at the early stages. That marks a major transformation phase in the memory market.
Future perspectives of the memory market
In the last interview, Micron’s CEO stated that AI requires high-performance memory with minimal power consumption. With that being said, the entire equation has to be changed.
Micron has huge plans regarding memory development for the next fifteen years. The company is going to invest approximately $250 billion in memory research and development in the U.S. Next to the headquarters in Idaho, there is already an active construction site for 2 memory manufacturing plants. The first facility will probably start functioning in the middle of next year.
AI systems are rapidly changing the whole structure of memory demand. This will not only impact data centers, but robots, autonomous vehicles, and personal AI devices will require more memory.
