Micron recently unveiled an SSD with maximum capacity and an SSD with unprecedented speed.

Features of the Micron 9650

The Micron 9650 can read data at a maximum speed of 28,000 MB/s and supports the PCIe 6.0 interface. In terms of random read performance, it can reach 5.5 million IOPS, which is also considered a record at this stage.

The SSD has a proprietary Micron controller with 276-layer 3D TLC NAND memory. The drives will likely be available in the following form factors: E3.S 1T and E1.S. The high data read speed indicates that this model may be the ideal solution for AI tasks. Additionally, support will be provided for P2P data exchange with Nvidia Blackwell graphics cards.

Micron 6600 ION series

There will be several models in the Micron 6600 ION lineup, with 31, 61, and 123 TB SSDs being the first to become available. The largest 245 TB drive will be available in the first half of 2026. This series is based on 276-layer memory and a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. For these drives, the sequential read speed will reach 14,000 MB/s.

The main purpose of these drives will be focused on use in large data centers. SSD IONs will be much more efficient in terms of power consumption. The Micron 9650 model is already available on the market, and the Micron 6600 ION will be available in the near future.
