AMD has officially unveiled the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 series (codename Shimada Peak), high-performance workstation CPUs based on the new Zen 5 architecture. Think of them as EPYC Turin chips tailored for professional creators and engineers. These chips feature up to 96 cores and 192 threads, full AVX-512 support via a 512-bit floating-point unit (FPU), and support for DDR5-6400 memory across eight ECC-capable channels, with capacities of up to 2TB.

The performance sees a notable improvement over the previous generation — AMD claims up to a 16% increase in workstation tasks and a 25% increase in AI and machine learning workloads. These CPUs utilize the familiar TR5 socket and offer 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0, although enterprise features such as CXL are absent. Corporate buyers will benefit from AMD PRO Management and support for AIM-T WLAN.

For enthusiasts and smaller studios, AMD also released the Threadripper 9000X line. These chips come with 24 to 64 cores, four-channel DDR5 memory, and 48 PCIe 5.0 lanes — trimmed specs for a better price-performance ratio. While they share the TR5 socket, some I/O may be disabled depending on motherboard support.

Radeon AI PRO 9000: Built for Compute

Alongside the CPUs, AMD launched the Radeon AI PRO 9000 GPU series, which is focused entirely on AI and computing rather than gaming. The flagship R9700 packs 64 RDNA 4 compute units, 128 AI matrix accelerators, and 32GB of GDDR6memory delivering 191 TFLOPS FP16 and 1531 TOPS INT4 — all in a 300W TDP package optimized for multi-GPU setups.

Threadripper 9000X CPUs will hit retail shelves, while the PRO 9000 series and AI GPUs will ship via OEM and AMD partners.
