AMD Prepares Competitor for Mobile Arm Chips

Rumours that AMD is planning to enter the Arm processor market have been circulating for a long time and have now received confirmation. Trade declarations were recently disclosed, revealing the existence of a mobile chip codenamed Soundwave.
Technical Details
On X (Twitter), an insider with the handle @Olrak29_ published a declaration containing the device's technical specifications. The BGA 1074 marking indicates that the processor is an APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), meaning a processor with powerful integrated graphics.
Assumptions regarding the chip’s mobile application are linked to its packaging dimensions, 32 mm x 27 mm, a typical format for portable devices. Soundwave is also set to become the successor to FF3, which is currently used in portable consoles. The abbreviation SWV also confirms the name Soundwave.
The Need for Arm
Currently, AMD dominates the gaming console and portable PC segment thanks to its powerful processors. Creating its own Arm chip makes sense from the perspective of competing with Qualcomm and NVIDIA.
In fact, this is not AMD's first attempt to master the Arm architecture. In 2014, the company launched a project called Project Skybridge, but it was cancelled.
Launch Timelines
There is currently no information regarding the launch timeline for Soundwave. According to rumours, the release of the new Arm-based processor can be expected within the next year.
