AMD's First PC: What Is This Device About?
13:37, 22.01.2026
AMD has introduced an unusual product, an ultra-compact computer called Ryzen AI Halo. This is not a typical consumer PC, but rather a developer kit focused on local AI workloads. The device ships without an operating system, mirroring the approach used for other professional-grade hardware.
Compact Form Factor
The main feature of the Ryzen AI Halo is its physical compactness. In terms of dimensions, it fits in the palm of an adult's hand. Its footprint is smaller than most office mini-PCs, and it only slightly exceeds the height of two stacked large external hard drives.
Despite the miniature size, AMD claims that functionality has not been compromised. The Ryzen AI Halo features four USB Type-C ports, a full-sized HDMI, and Ethernet, a configuration more typical of much larger desktop PCs.
This means developers won't need adapters or docking stations to connect displays, storage, or networks; the device is ready to use right out of the box.
What’s Inside?
Inside the device are Ryzen AI Max 300 series processors (codenamed Strix Halo), which combine CPU, GPU, and NPU into a single chip. The configuration supports up to 128 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The unified memory architecture allows the GPU to directly access a large portion of the system RAM, which is especially critical for AI tasks.
Availability and Pricing
Shipments of the Ryzen AI Halo are scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. While the company has not yet named an official price, systems based on Strix Halo are typically valued in the $1,500 - $2,500 range. While not intended for mass-market popularity, the Ryzen AI Halo will be of great interest to developers seeking a compact yet powerful platform.
