During the quarterly earnings conference, Intel announced plans for implementing 14A process technology. There are specific ideals related to the development of the process so that mass production can start in 2028. Earlier, the company was planning to launch mass production in 2029.
Shift from the previous intentions
Last year, Intel shared the possibility of abandoning 14A process technology if the percentage of demand for this specific technology does not grow. Because of the changed customer interest, the company has shifted its intentions. Now, the pilot production of chips on the 14A process can start in the 2nd half of 2027, and mass production will begin in 2028.
14A process is going ahead of the initial strategy. For instance, the PDK 0.5 design kit is already available, and version 0.9 will be released by autumn of this year. So that Intel’s customers can start product design even earlier. There are no official comments on whether Apple and Tesla will be among those clients for Intel 14A. However, Elon Musk shared some intentions of 14A technology usage in Terafab.
