14:20, 26.05.2025
The release of the new version of the Linux kernel took place on May 25 this year and was on schedule. The release of the next version 6.16 is previously scheduled for the end of July this year. The Linux 6.15 code can be downloaded from kernel.org.
The release of version 6.15 was delayed for a few hours due to a bug that was discovered, which caused a certain feature to be disabled. But overall, the release of the new version went pretty smoothly and stably.
Features of the new version of the Linux kernel
The new version has many updates, changes, and fixes for previous bugs. In addition, there is support for new hardware (Analog Device AD4851, Qualcomm IPQ9574 NSS, Rockchip RK3528, Dyna Image AL3000a, Broadcom APDS9160, Apple Touch Bar, and others), as well as new processors and solutions from PowerPC, AMD, and Intel.
Moreover, there are many new features for working with Rust. Version 6.15 now includes smarter timer ID assignment, the ability to read information from pidfd, nested ID-mapped mounts, persistent lock queues for BPF, modifications to guard-page, and more.
