Memory Market Crisis: Samsung Doubles DDR5 Prices
12:39, 17.12.2025
Samsung has officially doubled the prices of next-generation DDR5 RAM. The cost of a single module for device manufacturers is now around $20. The company explains the price hike by an “acute shortage,” stating that warehouse stocks of memory modules have been depleted while demand continues to rise.
Prices on the open market are increasing even faster than official contract prices, surpassing pessimistic forecasts made by analysts for the end of 2025.
Price Growth and Lack of Alternatives
Some manufacturers attempted to cut costs by switching to the previous generation of memory, but those efforts were unsuccessful. DDR4 prices have also increased, reaching $18 for a 16 GB module.
At this point, cheaper alternatives cannot stabilize the situation, simply because they barely exist. The entire memory market is experiencing rising prices.
What This Means for Buyers
The increase in component prices is already affecting the final cost of devices for consumers. Statistically, from September to December, we observe the following:
- Memory unit prices have tripled.
- Gaming PCs have increased in price by an average of $1.4 thousand in just two months.
- Dell Technologies has raised prices on enterprise solutions by approximately 10–30%.
Experts believe this upward pricing trend will continue into 2026. Buyers should prepare for significantly higher prices on new smartphones and laptops compared to current models.
