IBM engineers have demonstrated exceptional accuracy in quantum information transmission for the first time. With the help of four superconducting connections, the accuracy has reached almost 99 percent. This experiment is practically showing how several quantum computers can function in a single system.
Key aspects of the conducted experiment
During the experiment, two IBM Quantum Nighthawk processors were used; each one contains 120 qubits. The 4 aluminum coaxial cables connected them. The assembly of the cables was done after the processors’ installation in the cryogenic system. During this process, only part of the qubits from each processor was measured.
This experiment demonstrated the possibility of simultaneous execution of 2-qubit operations and the creation of entangled states. The average accuracy of such inter-chip functioning reached 96.42% as the best result.
Such an experiment has practically demonstrated that independent quantum processors can function together. This shows huge potential for the new scaling of the technology. The company has already created standing cryogenic racks for such purposes and there are obvious plans of their future utilization.
