Canonical announced a change in the support cycle of the LTS release of Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 and other basic LTS packages with Linx kernel.
This way, the LTS release of Ubuntu 22.04 as well as Linux kernel 5.15 will be supported until April 2032. The next Ubuntu release, 24.04, will accordingly receive updates until 2034. This applies also to Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04, 18.04 and 20.04.
Besides this, in five out of these 10 years, users of Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 with the paid Ubuntu Pro subscription will receive Extended Security Maintenance or ESM that provides fixing vulnerabilities of the kernel and other important system packages for up to 5 devices.
Super Long Term Support (SLTS) of 10 years for Linux kernel 6.1 was already announced by Linux Foundation early in October 2023.
