Due to the obvious memory shortage and constant price increases, both consumers and suppliers are more inclined to use long-term contracts. Such a choice has specific security guarantees for both sides. With that being said, Samsung has devoted almost 70 % of the entire memory production capacity to long-term contracts.
Memory Supply Strategy
70 % of production capacity will be mainly oriented toward supplying major consumers such as Google, Nvidia, Microsoft, and others till 2031. That means the needs of other customers will be met based on the residual scenario with a much higher price range. Even now, the price difference between the long-term contracts and regular buys varies a lot. For instance, a 36 GB HBM3E memory stack is almost $2,100 on the spot market, whereas long-term contractors pay 4 or even 5 times less.
According to South Korea’s official export statistics data, the volumes of memory shipments had fallen in July compared to May. However, the export value rose by almost 18.5%, and the average selling price increased by almost 36.6 %.
