JEDEC announces new SOCAMM2 RAM standard
15:39, 23.10.2025
JEDEC, which develops memory standards, has announced the final stage of the SOCAMM2 specification, also known as JESD328. The new standard is oriented toward the needs of modern data centers and AI platforms.
Details about the new standard
SOCAMM2 defines the LPDDR5/LPDDR5X module, which is replaceable, unlike standard solutions that are mainly soldered to the board. The format is geared towards AI workloads, so it will ensure low power consumption, higher bandwidth, and good scalability.
In addition, it is known that data transfer speeds of up to 9.6 Gb/s will be supported, which will enable high bandwidth with minimal energy consumption. This characteristic will be important for large data centers.
The new standard will support the SPD function. Serial Presence Detect is a module detection and telemetry mechanism to ensure compatibility with reliability requirements.
The standard will pave the way for smaller servers with greater RAM capacity, as SOCAMM2 will have a special form factor for denser board layouts and compact chassis.
The official specification of the standard will be published soon, so manufacturers will be able to start mass production in the near future.
