British oil and gas company Orcadian is planning the building of its first data center. The project will be located in the North Sea on the offshore platform and will be powered by a gas-fired power plant. The gas will be supplied from the Orwell and Earlham fields.
Key Details About the New Project Launch
It is expected that the gas will be used onsite for the generation of electricity, and the carbon dioxide will be kept in Earlham Field’s reservoirs for prolonged storage. Companies’ experts consider this variant as the most optimal one.
Earlham has more than 3.2 billion cubic meters of gas, and the redevelopment of the Orwell field can bring an additional 878 million cubic meters. The gas will be blended to receive the average methane content of 50%.
The initial plans involve the use of a single 200-MW generator hall. Later, other generators can be installed as an additional option. The responsibility for the launch and management of the project will be conducted by Earlham Cigagrid. All the necessary licenses will also be transferred to this company.
