Samsung’s 3GB GDDR7 Modules Hit the Market, Hinting at Bigger VRAM for RTX 50 GPUs

Samsung's new 3GB GDDR7 memory chips have appeared for sale in China. These modules, labeled K4VCF325ZC-SC28, offer 24Gb (3GB) of memory each and cost around $10 apiece. Sellers are offering free shipping for orders of five or more. This marks a significant step toward enabling larger VRAM capacities in future NVIDIA GPUs, especially in the upcoming RTX 50 series.
More VRAM for RTX 50 Cards
Currently, the only known use of 3GB modules is in a custom mobile version of the RTX 5090, featuring 24GB of VRAM on a 256-bit bus. Rumors suggest the RTX 5080 SUPER could adopt a similar layout. Other expected upgrades include an RTX 5070 SUPER with 18GB (up from 12GB) and even a 12GB RTX 5060, which would be a welcome improvement over the 8GB version.
Interestingly, NVIDIA had already teased these 3GB modules months ago in a Founders Edition design video. The desktop RTX 5090 model was shown with 16 modules labeled "K4VCF322ZC", hinting at a total of 48GB VRAM.
Modding Potential and What’s Next
With these modules now available to the public, modders may soon explore upgrading the VRAM on existing RTX 50 cards. If NVIDIA hasn’t added hardware-level restrictions, these upgrades could be relatively straightforward. Most RTX 50 models appear to share similar memory layouts, which could make custom upgrades even easier than before.
