According to recently revealed information, Samsung’s manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas, has begun operating ahead of the initial schedule mainly because of the contract with Tesla. Due to this cooperation, Samsung has also attracted the attention of other potential customers.
Details About the New Factories
At the new factory, AI chips will be manufactured using 2-nm technology for Tesla. Also, there are plans to open the second facility nearby for the production of 1.4-nm chips. The construction will most likely start this year and finish in 2030. The first facility wasn’t expected to fully function until November, but exceptional demand for AI chips has shifted plans.
The pilot production of the 2-nm AI5 chips has already begun, but Tesla won’t use them for mass production until next year.
The $16.5 billion agreement between Tesla and Samsung was signed last year. These new AI5 chips will be the main product manufactured in Texas. This chip may be used not only in the onboard systems of electric vehicles but also in data centers and Optimus humanoid robots.
Such fast expansion of the new facilities in Texas can help to accelerate Samsung’s contract manufacturing path to break even.
