Qualcomm is raising the stakes for Windows laptops and compact PCs with its second generation of Arm-based processors. The Snapdragon X2 Elite and the brand-new X2 Elite Extreme are built on a 3-nanometer process and combine Oryon Prime and Performance cores. For the first time in this series, the Extreme edition pushes to 18 cores and reaches an astonishing 5 GHz boost on two cores. Multi-core frequencies also climb higher than before, giving these chips a decisive edge over earlier models.

The lineup carries three versions: the flagship X2E-96-100 Extreme with 18 cores, the 18-core X2E-88-100 Elite, and the leaner 12-core X2E-80-100 Elite. Clock speeds vary, but all share a 53 MB cache on the top models and advanced Adreno graphics, with the Extreme pushing GPU frequencies up to 1.85 GHz.

Smarter Performance, Leaner Power

Qualcomm claims striking efficiency gains. Compared with previous generations, multitasking speed rises by over 30 percent while energy use drops by more than 40 percent. The GPU doubles efficiency per watt, and the new Hexagon NPU delivers 80 TOPS in INT8 operations — a 78 percent leap. Qualcomm calls it the fastest NPU in any laptop, designed to support Copilot+ PC features and local AI workloads without draining the battery.

Connectivity is equally future-ready with the Snapdragon X75 5G modem reaching 10 Gbps downloads, plus Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. For enterprise users, Qualcomm Guardian adds remote management capabilities reminiscent of Intel’s vPro platform.

Arrival of the Next Wave

The first laptops and mini PCs powered by Snapdragon X2 Elite processors are expected in early 2026, with potential debuts at CES. Qualcomm envisions the Extreme edition as the choice for scientific work, media professionals, and heavy AI use, while the standard Elite aims to power thin, light notebooks that last for days on a charge.
