The release of Ubuntu 23.10 Mantic Minotaur: Some part of the distributions was removed a few hours after release

14:46, 13.10.2023

On October 12, 2023, a new stable Ubuntu 23.10 under the codename  Mantic Minotaur was released. However, a few hours after that some images with the system were taken down because of some incorrect fragments of translation in the installer. The point is that some translations were added through a third-party crowdfunding tool, and some of the contributors added fragments, that were later marked as hate speech by the developers.

According to the developers, the incident is most likely limited to the translations they’ve already detected and doesn’t affect others. Also, the incident shouldn’t affect those who updated their previous Ubuntu version to this one. The developers also didn’t specify which particular parts of the translation were compromised.

Ubuntu 23.10 is an interim release with updates planned to continue for 9 months and support until July 2024.
